Under the leadership of Guillermo Perales, the company supports education, food security, military families, childhood cancer research, employee well-being, and survivors of domestic violence through long-standing partnerships and brand-led foundations all in conjunction with annual corporate and personal food and gift donations.

Tacos with a Purpose – Taco Bueno

Purpose: Supporting survivors of domestic violence while educating communities and creating safe workplaces.

Launched in June 2024, Tacos with a Purpose is Taco Bueno’s charitable initiative designed to provide meaningful support to individuals and families affected by domestic violence. Through a simple round-up donation at participating Taco Bueno locations across Texas and Oklahoma, guests are empowered to contribute to organizations making a direct, life-changing impact.

Funds raised support for nonprofit partners The Family Place in Texas and Palomar in Oklahoma; two leading organizations providing comprehensive, trauma-informed services to survivors. Contributions help fund emergency shelter, counseling, legal advocacy, transportation assistance, recovery programs, and long-term support services for survivors and their families.

Beyond fundraising, Taco Bueno and its parent company, Sun Holdings, are committed to education and prevention. Hotline information and resources are displayed in restaurants, and team members receive training on how to share support information with care and discretion.

In parallel, Sun Holdings has implemented a comprehensive workplace domestic violence policy across all brands. The policy provides confidential reporting options, safety planning, flexible leave, job protection, and employee training, reinforcing the company’s commitment to protect team members and fostering a culture of safety and respect.

Applebee’s - Alex’s lemonade stand foundation

Purpose: Advancing childhood cancer research and family support.

 Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) is a leading childhood cancer charity dedicated to funding research and supporting families affected by pediatric cancer.

Sun Holdings’ Applebee’s restaurants participate annually in ALSF fundraising campaigns, continuing the legacy of Alexandra “Alex” Scott and her mission to find cures for childhood cancer.

BURGER KING McLAMORE℠ FOUNDATION 

Purpose: Expanding access to education and supporting personal advancement.

The Burger King McLamore℠ Foundation is the charitable arm of the Burger King® system and a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Established in 2005, the Foundation honors the legacy of Burger King® co-founder James W. McLamore by advancing education and opportunity.

Through the Burger King℠ Scholars program, the Foundation provides scholarships to employees, employees’ spouses or domestic partners, employees’ children, and high school seniors across the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada. Awards are granted without regard to background or personal circumstance.

Camp Corral

Purpose: Supporting children of military families through connection and confidence-building experiences.

Camp Corral is a national nonprofit organization providing free summer camp experiences to children of wounded, ill, or fallen military service members, ages 8 to 15. Founded in 2011, Camp Corral operates camps in 16 states across the country.

Sun Holdings supports Camp Corral through in-store fundraising campaigns, with 100% of guest donations directly funding camp programs.

Freebirds Community Giving Initiatives

Purpose: Supporting disaster relief efforts and standing with survivors of domestic violence.

Freebirds is committed to showing up for its communities when support is needed most. Through targeted fundraising and nonprofit partnerships, Freebirds leverages its restaurants to create immediate and meaningful impact.

Kerr County Flood Relief

In response to severe flooding in Kerr County, Freebirds donated 100% of burrito profits on July 25 to the Kerr County Flood Relief effort. This initiative provided direct financial support to aid recovery efforts and assist families and communities affected by the disaster.

Partnership with The Family Place

Freebirds is also a proud partner of The Family Place, one of the largest family violence service providers in Texas, supporting critical services such as emergency shelter, counseling, legal aid, and long-term recovery programs for survivors of domestic violence and their families.

Popeyes Foundation

Purpose: Fighting food insecurity through local action.

The Popeyes Foundation supports nonprofit organizations addressing hunger through the Food Love Grants Program. Funds raised through in-restaurant campaigns support out-of-school meals, mobile food kitchens, campus pantries, and emergency food assistance.

Sun Holdings Popeyes teams also participate in national volunteer initiatives, including the Serving with Love Tour and the 9/11 Day of Service.

Uncle Julio’s Employee Relief Funds

Purpose: Supporting team members during times of hardship.

The Uncle Julio’s Employee Relief Fund was established to assist Uncle Julio’s team members, and their families, who experience significant financial strain due to unforeseen circumstances. Eligible situations may include medical emergencies, funeral expenses, natural disasters, fires or floods, emergency travel, or other unexpected events that result in loss of income or critical expenses.

The fund provides direct financial assistance to help cover essential needs during difficult times, offering stability and peace of mind when employees are most vulnerable. Importantly, 100% of all donations go directly to employees in need, ensuring transparency and maximum impact.

Sun Holdings Global Education & Leadership Development

Purpose: Developing future leaders through education, mentorship, and international experience.

Sun Holdings is committed to investing in the next generation of leaders by expanding access to education, real-world experience, and long-term career opportunities. Tecnológico de Monterrey Partnership

In partnership with Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico’s leading university, Sun Holdings participates in an international internship program that provides students with professional development and cross-border work experience within the company.
